Difference Between RF Tag and RFID Tag

an rf tag

RF tag is one part of EAS system, normally used for theft prevention. RFID tag is an electronic tag that exchanges data with an RFID reader through radio waves, RFID is short for Radio Frequency Identification, with an RFID contactless chip and antenna inside, normally used for identification, the chip inside the tag can record data. It is widely used in many fields, such as warehouse, supply chain, library, apparels, etc.

RF tag mainly used in what’s called electronic article surveillance (EAS). All tags are exactly the same and none of them identify which articles they’re attached to. So in a store, RF tags touch off the alarm when somebody is trying to steal something, but the software couldn’t tell you which commodity is being stolen. But if with RFID tag, the software will identify and tell you which commodity is missing.

Most RFID tags are made up of at least two main parts. The first part is an antenna, which receives radio frequency (RF) waves; the second part is an integrated circuit (IC), which is used for processing and storing data, as well as modulating and demodulating the radio waves received/sent by the antenna.

The whole RFID solution is consist of 3 parts, RFID tag, RFID reader and software. You can encode or encrypt the RFID chip so that the RFID tags can be used in high security applications, such as banking, financial, access control, etc.
