In recent years, container transportation has become an important form of transportation modernization due to its high efficiency, convenience and safety. As an important node of China’s modern logistics and supply chain, container handling capacity is constantly increasing. Therefore, the level of container management and informatization has become the key to restrict container transportation.

 

In order to improve the management and informatization level of container transportation, container electronic label system was born and applied in China’s domestic trade container transportation. Container electronic label is an automatic identification device which is attached to the container and serves as an information carrier and safety certification device for the container. The release and promotion of the container electronic label system will help accelerating the development of low-cost, safe, reliable, and easy-to-use container electronic devices, and will play a positive role in enhancing the level of international container safety transportation.

 

The information in electronic label is divided into 2 parts and 5 areas:

 

Part 1 is divided into 4 areas to store 4 types of information: ①Fixed information (Area A) includes serial number, box number, box holder, box type and size; ②Product information (Area B) includes waybill number, seal number , port of departure, port of destination, cargo name, box weight, number of pieces and special requirements of the cargo; ③ Other information (Area C) includes record of port of departure, record of transit port, record of lifting of container site of transit port, record of destination port, container of destination port site lifting records, machine ID numbers and damage records; ④ Electronic seal information (Area D) includes the date of unpacking, the time of unpacking (hours, minutes, seconds) and the cumulative number of unpacking.

Part 2 stores the freight forwarding information (Area E) and records the relevant contents of the consignment letter.

Authorization of reading and writing electronic tags info in each stage will be set according to the characteristics of container transportation, such as freight forwarding, port of departure (entry), damage records and automatic writing of electronic seals info.

The electronic label coding uses the basic structure of the Global Trade Number (GTIN).

 

Application significance

Container electronic label system, through the combination of RFID technology and the Internet, provides real-time container status information for logistics and trade enterprises.

Its existence has typical industry characteristics. First of all, the operating environment of the container electronic label system is relatively complex and technically difficult in the field of RFID label application. First of all, such as quantity of technical indicators, technological indicators, and functional requirements are far different from other fields. Second, the container electronic label is an application in a huge logistics network which involves the critical participation of multiple countries, regions and departments. Third, the comprehensive application of container electronic tags will surely bring huge benefits to the logistics industry, improve the management level and production and work efficiency effectively, which will ensure the safety and quality of cargo transportation.
